Lip augmentation is a treatment which involves a small number of injections to place filler into the lips to increase volume and create definition. The process is relatively quick, and results are immediate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions by our clients.

If you have a question which is not listed here send us a message or book a consultation.

Yes, this is absolutely fine if you are happy to pay a small deposit at the time of booking.

Juvederm contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule which creates volume in the lips. It also contains lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic to ensure a more comfortable treatment experience.

Prior to injection a local anaesthetic cream is applied directly to the lip area and this is given plenty of time to take effect. There is also a numbing agent in the filler itself so the level of pain and discomfort is kept to a minimum. The majority of people treated are pleasantly surprised about the level of pain, and say it is less than they were expecting.

Yes, there are possible side effects of lip fillers. Common side effects include inflammatory skin reactions such as redness , swelling, itchiness and bruising. These effects are all temporary and should resolve within a week. Although extremely rare there are other more serious risks of treatment; these include skin discolouration, abscesses, granulomas (foreign body reaction) and immediate or delayed hypersensitivity. Another extremely rare but serious risk of lip fillers is blockage of a blood vessel causing lack of blood supply to affected areas. AnnaLouise has had full training on management of complications, and is qualified to dissolve the filler using a dissolving enzyme called Hyaluronidase if there was any concern that the filler had caused a blockage.

During initial consultation AnnaLouise can advise on which filler and volume is most appropriate for you, this is based on desired outcome of treatment. Juvederm Volbella is a soft, natural looking filler suitable for those wanting a subtle rejuvenation. Juvederm Volift is a firmer filler recommended for a more noticeable increase in volume. Juvederm Ultra Smile and Juvederm Volift Retouch are available in a 0.55ml syringe, so is suitable for people who have had filler before and are wanting to top up their enhancement.

In a natural looking lip the lower lip is always fuller than the top, so treating the upper lip alone with filler is likely to give an unnatural 'ducky' appearance. However this is assessed on a case by case basis, and if deemed appropriate AnnaLouise is happy to treat just the upper or lower lip.

Lip filler is not to be used during pregnancy, or while breast feeding. Another contraindication is known allergy to hyaluronic acid injections, or the prescence of an active cold sore or lip infection.

Absolutely not! Sadly there is a stigma attached to lip fillers, and we often see people who have had too much filler, or incorrect filler placement. This gives an unsightly, unattractive appearance. AnnaLouise strongly believes that often less is more, with the aim being to enhance your natural lips rather than to completely change their look.

It is best to avoid excessive or very strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and to avoid wearing lip gloss or lipstick until the day after treatment. Avoid extreme sun exposure, saunas and steam rooms for two weeks, as the the high heat can make swelling more prounounced. If you are having lip fillers for a special event make sure you allow time after your appointment for swelling to settle - generally 1 week is sufficient but AnnaLouise will advise on this during your consultation.

No, AnnaLouise uses the Juvederm range of fillers, which is non-permanent. The effects of treatment last 12-18 months, but depends on factors such as age, lifestyle and volume of filler injected.
