Botox in the axillary area works by blocking the transmission from the nerves to the sweat glands.
Botox Treatment for Underarm Sweating
Botox® in the underarm area takes around 3 days to start working, although many people notice a difference as early as 1 day after treatment. Results last 6-12 months.
What is Hyperhidrosis?
Sweating is a normal function, and is a part of how the body regulates its temperature. Some people produce sweat in amounts greater than required, this is known as hyperhidrosis. The condition leaves visible wet patches on clothing and can cause embarrassment both socially and at work. AnnaLouise treats axillary hyperhidrosis using Botox injections, which work by blocking the transmission from the nerves to the sweat glands.
What can I expect from my treatment?
Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes, and involves injections of botulinum toxin just under the skin in the underarm area using a very tiny needle. Results can be noticed after about 3 days. The degree of dryness achieved depends on the initial severity of hyperhidrosis. Benefits of treatment last between 6 months and 1 year.

What's Involved?
A free initial consultation is offered to discuss hyperhidrosis treatment options.
Initial Consultation
During this appointment your medical history will be discussed to ensure any prescription medications or health issues will not be affected by treatment. Your severity of hyperhidrosis will be discussed, and how it impacts your daily life. There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss treatment options, and for you to ask questions. AnnaLouise is a Nurse Prescriber, so she is able to write your prescription for Botox if you would like to proceed.

Prior to commencing any treatment you will need to sign a consent form. AnnaLouise will give detailed information on the benefits and risks of Botox to equip you with the knowledge needed to confirm you are happy to proceed. It would be helpful if you could shave both armpits prior to treatment, however it is not absolutely essential if you would prefer not to. The underarms will need to be accessible, so it is a good idea to wear a vest or sleeeless top. The area will be thoroughly cleansed prior to treatment so wearing deodorant on the day of your appointment is fine.
Botox® takes 3 days to take effect, and results last approximately 6-12 months.
Botox® injections are likely to cause some discomfort, however this should be minimal as the needles used are tiny and the procedure relatively quick.
All possible side effects of Botox® are fully discussed during the initial consultation. The most common side effects of Botox® are local reactions at the injection site, and include redness, swelling, irritation, pain and bruising. More serious side effects include muscle weakness away from the site of injection and allergic reaction.
Botox® is not to be used during pregnancy, or while breast feeding. Other contraindications include neuromuscular disorders (eg. myasthenia gravis), known allergy to Botulinum Toxin Type A or infection at the site of injection.
After your appointment it is advised to wear loose fitting clothing to avoid irritating the area, and to avoid using deodorant for 12 hours. You may have very tiny red marks or bruising in the underarm area, but these are easily hidden and will heal within a few days.
