Commonly Asked Questions

Botox® Wrinkle Reducing Injections

Are wrinkle reducing injections Botox®?

Yes, AnnaLouise uses Azzalure®, which is Botulinum Toxin Type A. This drug is commonly known as Botox®.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® works by blocking the transmission of impulses from the nerve to the muscle, causing the muscle to temporarily weaken. This means it can no longer contract, therefore the lines and wrinkles soften and smooth out.

What areas of the face can Botox® be used to treat?

Areas which are treated effectively with Botox® are frown lines; bunny lines, forehead lines and crows feet at the outside of the eyes.

How long do results of Botox® last?

Botox® takes 4-10 days to take effect, and results last approximately 3 months. However with repeated Botox® treatments the facial muscles re-educate, therefore the results will start to last longer.

Are the Botox® injections painful?

Botox® injections are likely to cause some discomfort, however this should be minimal as the needles used are tiny and the procedure relatively quick.

Does Botox® have any side effects?

All possible side effects of Botox® are fully discussed during the initial consultation. The most common side effects of Botox® are local reactions at the injection site, and include redness, swelling, irritation, pain and bruising. Headaches are another possible short term side effect. More serious side effects include muscle weakness away from the site of injection, allergic reaction and eyelid drooping.

Who should avoid treatment with Botox®?

Botox® is not to be used during pregnancy, or while breast feeding. Other contraindications include neuromuscular disorders (eg. myasthenia gravis) or known allergy to Botulinum Toxin Type A.

How can I get reduced price Botox® treatments?

Dermal Fillers

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers are injected just below the surface of the skin, and work by instantly replacing volume lost as a result of ageing. This plumps up the skin, diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and gives a natural, softer look. Results of treatment can be seen immediately.

Are the results permanent?

No, AnnaLouise uses Juvederm, which is a non-permanent filler. The effects of treatment last 12-18 months, but depends on factors such as age, lifestyle and volume of filler injected.

What does Juvederm contain?

Juvederm contains hyaluronic acid; a naturally occurring molecule which creates volume in the face. It also contains lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic to ensure a more comfortable treatment experience.

What areas can be treated?

Dermal fillers can be used to treat cheeks, jawline, chin, nasolabial folds and marionette lines.

Is the treatment painful?

Prior to injection a local anaesthetic cream is applied directly to the area to be treated, and cold packs can also used to help numb the area. In combination with the local anaesthetic content in the filler the level of pain and discomfort is kept to a minimum.

Is treatment carried out using a needle or cannula?

AnnaLouise uses cannulas where possible, as these reduce the number of injections required therefore lower the risk of bruising.

How do I know how many syringes I will need?

During initial consultation AnnaLouise can advise on the number of syringes required, this is an estimation based on desired outcome of treatment. However, this is only a guide, and it is your decision whether to use more or less filler. There will be opportunity during the follow up appointment to have further syringes injected.

Is there anything I should/shouldn't do after my treatment?

Yes, please see the after care section for more information.
